•• Haldir: Biography
Little is known of our precious Elf, unfortunately, but I have managed to pull up as much information as possible from the books. Given facts by J.R.R. Tolkien NOT Peter Jackson. What I mean is: Haldir did not get the back of his head sliced open by any Uruk, nor did he lead any Galadhrim host to Helm's Deep.

OTHER HALDIRS: Haldir of Lórien of the THIRD Age is not to be confused with the other Elf of the FIRST Age, Haldir of Nargothrond... nor is he to be confused with the Adan, also of the FIRST Age, Haldir of the Haladin of Brethil. Thanks :-D

Name: Haldir of Lórien (you fail if you didn't know that).

Race: Silvan Elf.

Gender: Male.

Homeland: Lórien, but he does travel very often.

Siblings: Rúmil and Orophin.

Position: He guards the Northern borders of Lórien. Basically, a servant of Galadriel and Celeborn with limited authority.

Dialects spoken: Sindarin and Westron. He is one of the only Elves of Lothlórien with the ability to speak Westron, so he is the one that communicated with the Fellowship upon their arrival.

Other details: Haldir encountered the Fellowship of the Ring - when they were fleeing Orcs - in between January 15 and February 16, in the year 3019 of the Third Age. There he stopped and questioned them, and did not very much trust them, especially Gimli, who was a Dwarf. He had only let them pass so far without slaying them because an Elf - Legolas - was accompanying them. Nevertheless, he led them through Lórien blindfolded until the Lady Galadriel granted them permission to travel through Lórien without being blindfolded. He good-naturedly apologized to them and led them through without the blindfolds. Haldir was their guide and led them through Lórien under his protection until they reached Caras Galadhon. As the Fellowship was leaving Lórien, Haldir returned from the northern marches to bid them farewell and to escort them to their boats.

Haldir's name in Sindarin means "hidden one", though many people argue that it means "tall one". ("hall"=hidden; "dir"=one).

Another note to the Haldir fans who have never read the books before: read them. Haldir did not appear in The Two Towers, nor did any Elves show up at Helm's Deep, aside from Legolas. Yes, it's true that the Galadhrim did assist in many battles of their own, but not that one. In fact, Haldir's history before and after his encounter of the Fellowship is not known at all. Tolkien did not write (or publish, really) any further information about his age, appearance, birth or death date... all that remains unknown. It is widely believed that Haldir did survive all the battles and did end up sailing to Valinor with the other Elves, at the end of the Third Age. No, that is not confirmed.
